At Boca Ballet Theatre’s Summer Workshops, student dancers will interact on a daily basis, not only with professional dancers, but also with established and innovative new choreographers and teachers. Student dancers will learn about all aspects of theatrical production and performance from the world’s best.

Class sizes are kept to approximately 20 students per class. Dancers selected to participate in the Performance Workshop will perform in Boca Ballet Theatres’ August 3, 4, 5 concert, Coppelia, with professional dancers.

Past guest artists include: Julie Kent, American Ballet Theatre, Wendy Whelan & Nikolaj Hubbe, New York City Ballet; Angel Corella, American Ballet Theatre; Dennis Lue, Lion King; Lauren Anderson, Houston Ballet; Lloyd Riggins, Royal Danish Ballet and Hamburg Ballet.

The Boca Ballet Theatre Summer Workshops are primarily for serious students with pervious ballet training who are willing and able to benefit from this intense program of instruction. Excellence of technique, classical purity, aplomb and individual artistic development in a professional atmosphere are a major focus, as well as individual attention.

Please refer to the detailed information below for each program.  These workshops are limited in size.  Acceptance and placement will depend upon the level of the student as determined by the school director for Workshops I, II & III and by an audition class for the Performance Workshop TBA.

Performance Workshop participants will perform in a full-length ballet, Coppelia, with professional daners.

The Performance Intensive Workshop is from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, six days per week for five weeks.

Classes in ballet technique, together with either jazz, character, modern or pilates will be included. Additional classes in pointe technique and variations will also be included in higher levels.
Dance enrichment sessions of the workshops will include: question-and-answer sessions with professional dancers, technical theater production, video critique of historic ballet performances, plus discussions on resume, make-up and audition skills.

In the Performance Intensive Workshop, you will learn what it is to be a member of a Corps de Ballet dancing with some of the finest professional dancers in the world.

Out-of-Town Video Auditions

Out-of-town students must submit a complete application with headshot, application fee and one letter of recommendation from your current dance instructor. Deadline for the video is TBA. The video should be no longer than three minutes and include the following:

  • Full-face video introduction, including your name and age.
  • You should be the only one appearing on the video.
  • Any classical variation best suited for the dancer; and/or
  • A series of classroom exercises including adagio, petite allegro, and grande allegro.  Please include  échappés and pirouettes en pointe, and grande jetés.

Workshop III is a 10:30 am – 5:00 pm, five days per week for three weeks, intensive training workshop.  Daily classes will consist of ballet technique, pointe and introduction to pointe. Classes in modern, jazz and character will also be included. Students will be introduced to the proper rehearsal and performance techniques required for a full-scale theatrical performance. Dan Guin
Executive Director and Co-Artistic Director

Born in North Carolina, Dan was trained at the North Carolina School of the Arts.  Dan has used his background in ballet and jazz in concert and commercial work.  His professional experiences include performing with Southern Ballet Theatre of Orlando, Florida, Lyric Opera Ballet of Chicago, Delta Festival Ballet, South Carolina Ballet Theatre/Ballet Michigan and Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago.

He is in demand as a choreographer and teacher for regional dance companies throughout the United States.  He has choreographed productions such as The Nutcracker, Graduation Ball, Boca Baroque, Coppélia, A Chorus Line, and From Me to You.  His choreography can be found in the repertory of several civic and professional dance companies.  His recent accomplishments include brilliant stagings of Giselle, Ella Sang, Romeo and Juliet, and Swan Lake.

Dan Guin

A native of Florence, Alabama, Jane began her training with the Birmingham Civic Ballet and continued training at the University of Alabama dance department, where she received a B.A. in Arts Management and Dance Performance. Her professional performing experience includes the Lyric Opera Ballet of Chicago, South Carolina Ballet Theatre/Ballet Michigan, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Delta Festival Ballet, Wisconsin Ballet Theatre, and Southern Ballet Theatre of Orlando.

She was Executive Director, Scholarship Director, and Ballet Instructor for the internationally known Gus Giordano Dance Center in Chicago, Illinois and has also served on the faculty of Lou Conte Dance Studio, South Carolina’s Columbia College, David Puszh Dance Company, and the Joseph Holmes Dance Institute. Jane’s teaching and performing abilities have taken her to many locations giving her vast experience to bring into the stage and classroom.
