BBT alumna Sasha Lazarus to teach at Advanced Performance Workshop

Boca Ballet Theatre is excited to welcome back alumna Sasha Lazarus to teach at our Advanced Performance Workshop this summer! As a company member of Giordano Dance Chicago, Sasha will share her extensive knowledge of American jazz dance and the Giordano Technique with our workshop dancers.

She is a fantastic, engaging teacher with so much to offer—not just in terms of technique but also how to pursue a career in professional dance. We are grateful for her willingness to pay her time and talent forward to the next generation of dancers!

Read more about Sasha’s dance career below.

Originally from Delray Beach, Florida, Sasha Lazarus began her dance training with Jane Tyree and Dan Guin at Boca Ballet Theatre and with Ricardo Pena at Performance Edge 2. After graduating from Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in 2017, Sasha completed Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s Pre-Professional Program with Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. She began her professional career in 2018 when she joined Menlowe Ballet, where she performed principal roles in works by Michael Lowe, Dennis Nahat, and Donald McKayle.

In 2021, Sasha was invited to join Giordano Dance Chicago, best known as America’s original jazz dance company. Founded by Gus Giordano in 1963, GDC now travels worldwide for its performances and has visited more than 1,200 cities over the course of its 58 year history! Some might know that BBT itself has connections to Giordano Dance Chicago, our Co-Artistic Directors Dan Guin and Jane Tyree both danced professionally for the company with Jane later serving as School Director, Scholarship Director, and Ballet Instructor. Sasha now carries on the Giordano legacy as a member of the main company!

Sasha is certified in all 5 levels of the Nan Giordano Certification Program®. She teaches Jazz to Pre-Professional students at the Joffrey Academy of Dance and educates young students in Chicago’s Public Schools as a part of GDC’s Jazz Dance/Science & Health Program. We are thrilled to welcome her back to Boca Raton, where she will serve as a guest faculty at BBT’s Summer Performance Workshop, sharing her expertise with dancers from across the country!
