About Anabel Alpert

Anabel began her training at Boca Ballet Theatre around the age of seven. As a child, she was mostly excited to go home after school and spend time with her mom, but her first class at BBT changed everything. She took a trial class with Miss Cindy and immediately told her mom, “I want to take this class, with this teacher, every week!” The following year, she was a lamb in her first Nutcracker production, and the rest, as they say, is history! She danced in every Nutcracker, full-length ballet, and mixed repertoire performance she could until 2015, when she continued her training at Miami City Ballet School. Because BBT had consistently emphasized the importance of artistry in both classes and performances, Anabel felt she had a particular advantage in Miami.

After graduating from the MCB School, Anabel danced professionally with The Sarasota Ballet, Ballet Austin, and American Contemporary Ballet. She currently dances with New Chamber Ballet, an internationally-acclaimed company dedicated to the creation of new ballets performed to live chamber music. After spending several years balancing full-time professional dancing and part-time university classes, Anabel graduated cum laude from Pennsylvania State University, earning her degree in organizational leadership.

Anabel currently teaches ballet at Yvette Dance Studio in Cranford, New Jersey, and is a guest teacher and guest artist at the Philadelphia Dance Academy in Philadelphia. She is also thrilled to announce that she is now a répétiteur and licensing manager for world-renowned choreographer Lauren Lovette, formerly of the New York City Ballet. Anabel’s experience as a professional dancer, teacher, and director has prepared her for this exciting opportunity!

However, it’s Anabel’s desire to promote and support emerging dancers and choreographers that led her to found the NYC Emerging Artists Project in 2023, marking the beginning of an exciting new initiative for young dancers and artists.

The NYC Emerging Artist Project

Anabel founded the NYC Emerging Artist Project with the mission of promoting and supporting the next generation of professional dancers and choreographers. Young artists are faced with an extremely tight audition market, and many are left discouraged after auditioning year after year. Often when emerging artists are given opportunities to dance professionally, many wait years to be challenged and properly showcase their talent. Similarly, emerging choreographers are very rarely given the chance to set their choreography on dancers or see their work in performance. The NYC Emerging Artists Project thus fills a need in the dance community, allowing young artists to experience company life in an encouraging environment.

“In my journey to find my current ‘dancing home’ at New Chamber Ballet,” Anabel says, “I lived and danced in Miami, Los Angeles, Sarasota, and Austin, all before I turned 22! It was an incredible but exhausting experience, and I believe that if the NYC Emerging Artists Project had existed then, it would have allowed me to recharge and rediscover my love for dance. That’s my hope for all the participating artists.”

The NYC Emerging Artists Project provides an opportunity to create and collaborate on new work through a two-week residency culminating in an innovative performance that gives emerging dancers and choreographers the opportunity to develop their skills, collaborate on new work, and showcase their talents. A unique aspect of the project is that, at this stage in their careers, these artists would typically be paying tuition for such an opportunity; however, the project offers paid positions. For many, this is the first time they’ve been compensated for their work!

Anabel’s project is now setting its sights on its second anniversary! We hope you’ll consider supporting her efforts to provide this vital platform to talented young dancers and choreographers alike.
