Giselle Tickets Now on Sale!
This spring, Boca Ballet Theatre will bring to life one of the most beloved ballets of all time! We hope you’ll join us on April 22-23, 2023, for Giselle, starring principal guest artists Sterling Baca and Oksana Maslova of Philadelphia Ballet. With its ethereal dancing and heartfelt story, this romantic ballet is not to be missed!
Giselle tells the story of a peasant girl who falls in love with Albrecht, a nobleman who disguises himself as a villager. However, when Albrecht’s deceit is revealed, Giselle dies of heartbreak and is tempted to join the Wilis, a group of restless spirits who seek revenge on the lovers who betrayed them. In the end, Giselle must choose between vengeance and mercy, a choice that will test her heart before she can rest in peace.
We’re excited to have Philadelphia Ballet principal dancer Oksana Maslova dancing the role of Giselle. Before joining the Philadelphia Ballet, Oksana was a member of Suziriya Dance Theater. In 2004, she became a member of the Odessa National Opera House, where she rose to the rank of soloist and performed a variety of principal roles. In 2008, she joined Grand Rapids Ballet as a principal dancer, performing their entire classical repertoire. She joined the Connecticut Ballet Company as a principal dancer in June 2011 and then joined the Philadelphia Ballet as a soloist for their 2014/2015 Season. In 2016, Oksana was promoted to principal dancer and has continued to perform a mixed repertoire of classical, modern, and full-length works, including David Dawson’s The Third Light, Brian Sanders’ Chicken Bone Brain, George Balanchine’s Western Symphony (Second Movement), and Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella (Cinderella). Oksana’s performance with Boca Ballet Theatre is underwritten by Eric and Olga Jorgensen.
Principal dancer Sterling Baca will star opposite Oksana as Albrecht. As a young dancer, Sterling attended numerous summer programs at American Ballet Theatre, where he received a full scholarship to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. He danced with American Ballet Theatre from 2010 to 2016 and was promoted through their ranks. In 2016, he appeared on the cover of Dance magazine for their “25 to Watch” issue. Sterling eventually joined Pennsylvania Ballet as a principal dancer for the 2016/2017 season and has appeared in principal roles in a varied repertoire that includes Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella (Prince); Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo & Juliet (Romeo); and Angel Corella’s Le Corsaire (Conrad), Swan Lake (Prince), and The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Desire). Boca Ballet Theatre’s audiences will remember Sterling as Romeo in our 2019 production of Romeo & Juliet.
