Featured choreographers

BBT is excited to stage George Balanchine’s La Source—an honor for the company, which must receive approval from the Balanchine Trust to present his works. Originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon in1866, La Source was revived in 1968 by Balanchine, who used excerpts from the score to create a pas de deux. The following year, he expanded the ballet to include sections originally choreographed for his Pas de Deux and Divertissement.

David Palmer will present the Boca Raton premiere of a piece set to George Gershwin’s vivacious and jazzy work “Rhapsody in Blue.” Palmer’s career in professional dance includes directorships at Maximum Dance Company, The Washington Ballet, and The Rochester City Ballet. After co-founding MDC with Yanis Pikeris in 1997, he oversaw a decade of success as director of the company, attracting dancers from American Ballet Theatre, Miami City Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet, amongst many others. Palmer’s international professional relationships with dancers, choreographers, musicians, and directors across the globe were invaluable to MDC and to his directorships since then. We are thrilled to welcome him back to BBT, which he has commended for a Summer Performance Workshop that provides dancers with “broad understanding of the professional dance world.”

Our third featured choreographer is David Parsons, who will stage his work Sleep Study. Parsons is the founder of Parsons Dance, a contemporary dance company. Throughout his career, he has created more than 75 works for Parsons Dance. He has also received commissions from American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, the Spoleto Festival, and Het Muziektheater in Amsterdam, among many others. In 2018, he received the Capezio Award, one of the most prestigious awards in dance.

We hope you will join us for Summer Dreams’ delightful mix of works by these visionary choreographers. Reserve your tickets today!
